Italy, the largest ag equipment producing country after the U.S. and Germany, will likely see an 11.9% decline in tractor exports by the end of 2018. This is according to FederUnacoma, the Italian Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Federation, which also reports that national production is dropping in the country as a result. Even so, other equipment segments are performing strongly which should lead to a production value in line with 2017 levels.
The figures indicate a 6% decrease for tractors, an 18% decrease for tractors with loading platforms, a slight gain of 0.3% for trailers, little change for telehandlers and a 1.5% decrease for combines.
FederUnacoma, the Italian Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers Federation, expects the downturn in farm machinery sales experienced by most countries to move into 2017, according to a release issued on Nov. 8, prior to the start of the EIMA ag equipment exhibition in Bologna.
Machinery manufacturers and dealers in Italy received a welcome boost in 2015 when the market for tractors and combines broke both national and Europe-wide trends to record an increase in sales over the prior year.
The manufacturers of “narrow track” tractors in Italy are appealing to the European Parliament to reduce the emission requirements on the equipment or “risk the relocation of domestic manufacturers to the countries taking in their exports to concentrate their business in the sector there.”
