Several industry representatives expressed their concerns about the lack of resources released by Brazil’s federal government since last year. However, many of them are optimistic due to the high commodity prices and strong demand for exports.
In 2019, Brazilian tractor sales reached 33,137 units. Compared to 2018, this was a drop of 14.6% of total units sold. Mahindra claims to be the only tractor company who increased sales during the past year.
The latest report from Brazil’s Anfavea reveals that year-over-year tractor sales in November escalated by nearly 23%, but they dropped 29.4% compared to the previous month. In October, tractor sales reached 2,873 units vs. 2,336 in November of 2017 and 4,070 in October 2018. Year-to-date, sales increased to 36,118 units vs. 33,238 in the same period last year.
Expointer 2017, one the largest agricultural fairs in Latin America, was held Aug. 26-Sept. 3 in the city of Esteio, near Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul, where most Brazilian grain growers buy their machinery.
A report released by Brazil’s National Assn. of Automotive Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) in May reveals that sales of agricultural and road machinery jumped 33.1% compared to the first 4 months of 2016 with 13,200 units sold.
Depending on the country and size of the equipment, global sales of farm machinery through much of the first half of the year are best characterized as “uneven.”
