A Perkins County village came together today to help a local businessman celebrate thirty years of success.

I love to farm with it even today just because I can't get away from the dirt and l love it. If we don't do things unique and differently then we are just one of the bunch and I don't want to be one of the bunch.

That's why Ron Regier started his own farm and tractor dealership in Madrid, Neb.

“It really began with a seven and a half acre dirt plot just off the highway just west of Madrid and we started with a 50 x 75 foot building and at times I was the sole mechanic, parts, sales, auto and the whole works,” says Ron Regier, owner of Regier Farm Equipment.

Thirty years later the family owned business is going strong. [The dealership handles Massey Ferguson and Challenger equipment brands.]

“You get the whole gamut of things, you get the drought. I remember in the early eighties when I first started interest rates were in the twenties. Everyone thought I was crazy and looking back I think I was for starting back in that time,” says Regier.

While he's experienced his fair share of highs and lows.

“At times absolutely I just thought I don't see how this guy is going to keep going,” says Regier.

And more challenges coming his way.

“We are going to have a crop out here in Western Nebraska a lot of places won't,” says Regier.

He's optimistic about the future.

“High grain prices with irrigation to take advantage of high expenditures and areas that didn't get rain so we're in a very unique section of the Ag industry out here,” says Regier.
